    TuesdayMonday 19th MarchAugust
    In the double theory lesson we looked at Personal , Technical and Physical qualities you would need in each position in order for successful performance in the Fast Break and the 2-1-2 Zone defence. This came off the back of the poorly answered question in the homework. The document below should reinforce what we learned in class
    {Tech - Phy - Per.doc}
    We also reinforced the Principles of Play that
    today we completed on Monday. Look at the document below. It is a colour copy of the document that will be given out on Thursday:
    {Principles of Play Doc.doc}
    Finally I gave you out the last 4 years Structures Past papers to go through
    introduced Physcial and highlight any questions that you are struggling with.
    Monday 18th March
    In todays theory lesson we looked that the strengths and weakness
    Skill Related Aspects of the fast break. The attachment below give the details that were on the board in the class.
    {STRENGTHS AND WEAKNESSES OF A FAST BREAK.doc}
    We also began looking at the Principles of Play. Each of these will need to be considered and examples given on how these are apparent in each of our 2 strategies (2-1-2 Zone and Fast Break)
    Principles of Play:
    Width in Attack - In the Fast Break we show width in attack when the guards peel top the elbow for the outlet pass and also in the shooting phase when the guard and centre provide width for the other guards decision making.
    Depth in Attack - This is shown by the trail players who are responsible for trailing behind our 3 man fast break. They are important as they provide support for the attack should the defence get back but also provide support in the event that our team turn the ball over in the opponents half of the court.
    Depth in Defence - This is shown by our rebound triangle in the 2-1-2 Zone and also by the 2 forwards who provide defence at the basket in the event that an attacker breaks through.
    Mobility - This is shown in both strategies as without mobility the fast break would break down as all 3 forward thinking players require mobility to get up the court fast enough and in the correct position to gain an unopposed basket. In the zone defence mobility is essential so that the zone moves quickly across the court to cover fast passing around them.
    In the practical lesson we spent time on the 4th drill of our development programme. This was essential as it replicated the fast pace of the game situation. Many of you now understand the added pressure and requirements on your skill level at this stage of the fast break.
    Thursday 14th March
    In today's lesson we performed the beginning of our development plan for the Fast Break that we created on Tuesday.
    This development plan looks at the timing of the run by both the guard and centre to get into position at the top of the key. This was the weakness that we found from our analysis.
    Tuesday 12th March
    Today in class we completed our Initial Data collection. From this initial Data collection you realised that a number of issues were the problem with your fast break. These were:
    1. Speed of Fast Break
    2. Poor Quality Lay-up
    3. Centre not getting up court in time to support (Timing of run)
    4. Support Guard not getting up court to support (Timing of run)
    5. Guard / Centre not signalling for pass.
    You
    Fitness. You were then asked to complete the question about describing the problem you encountered. IN addition you need to mention what happens to your teams performance if this is a problem.
    A Focussed Data collection was then made on the Shooting phase. All info is on the document below.
    {Data Collection S&S.doc}
    We then went onto discussing the development programme that we need to complete in order to rectify our weakness. This programme was shown on the ipad and will be completed in the double practical on Thursday. A copy is in your booklet, and also below.
    1. 3v0 unopposed Fast Break
    2. 3v1 fast break (passive)
    3. 3v2 fast break (passive)
    4. 3v2 chased fast break.
    5. 3v3 chased fast break.

    If you are struggling with this then make sure you see me before Monday morning!
    Monday 11th March
    Today
    an aspect of physical fitness in class I was outa sport of school so Miss Clark took you through your initial analysis of the Fast break. This was done using the video analysis in order that you could see the weaknesses that your team found performing the fast break.
    Your homework was also due and we will go over this on Tuesday. If it was not handed in then please make sure it is done for first thing on Tuesday morning.
    The sample answer for the homework is below.
    Description of the fast Break:

    Tuesday 5th March
    Today we went over the description of the Box and 1 adaption. Below is the example shown to you:
    {Box and 1 description.doc}
    In the practical lesson we looked at how we could evaluate the success of the adaption from the 2-1-2 zone defence to the Box and 1 zone defence. This was done through Statistical Analysis of:
    1. No of Baskets Conceded
    2. No of rebounds won and lost inside our key
    3. Number of turnovers.
    4. Where our turnovers occured (inside or outside the key)
    5. Where shots are taken from and conceded.
    Having finished our Zone defence we moved onto the Fast Break.

    Homework - Due Monday 11th March
    1. Describe, in detail, the Fast Break (4 marks)
    Monday 4th March
    Today in the practical lesson we looked at the adaptions we would need to make to our 2-1-2 Zone defence if something happened in the game that made our structure unsuccessful.
    You were asked to describe a situation where this would be the case and we directed to describe the fact that a guard in the opposition team was 'hot' from the 3 point line.
    The example answer below was handed to you after you completed your answer:
    {Situation to change zone.doc}
    Tuesday 26th February
    Today you went over your description of the 2-1-2 Zone Defence. I provided you with an example answer that you were to compare your answer. See below the Example:
    {Description 212 Zone.doc}
    We also started to build an answer for your role within this structure. Wether you are a guard, Centre or Forward you need to condsider every responsibility you have within the Zone defence.
    You were also given homework for next Monday 4th March
    Homework
    1. Discuss the factors to consider when selecting structures, strategies or compositions (6 marks)
    Remeber this is a Discussion Question so think: HOW, WHY, JUSTIFY
    Monday 25th February
    Today in the practical lesson we ran a 2-1-2 Zone defence conditioned game where the non players were to evaluate the performance of each team and look for strengths and weaknesses of the 2-1-2 zone defence.
    In the theory lesson we discussed the strengths and weaknesses of this structure. Below is a photo from the whiteboard of what the class came up with:
    {Classwork 1.JPG}
    We also went over the homework and came up with a list of factors that you would need to consider when selecting a Structure or Strategy. The photo below is what the class came up with from their homeworks:
    {Classwork 2.JPG}
    There is also the full detailed strengths and weaknesses of the 2-1-2 Zone defence in your booklet. This should look like the attachment below:
    {Zone S&W.doc}
    Tuesday 19th February
    In the theory lesson today we revised the 2-1-2 Zone defence and you spent time preparing a DESCRIPTION of this structure. Your description needed to include:
    1. What ths structure is
    2. What it is supposed to achieve
    3. The positions
    4. The responsibilities of each player
    5. The Zones for each player
    6. Concept of the structure - Shoot from distance?
    7. Details of movement of zone
    8. Defensive(Rebound) triangle
    9. Why you would select this
    10. Diagram
    Homework was also handed out to be handed in next Monday:
    1. List the factors you would consider when selecting a structure
    2. Read and understand the rules and glossary at the back of your booklet
    Monday 18th February
    Today you were given out the booklet for the beginnong of the Structures and Strategies section of the course.
    We looked at the Roles and responsibilities of each of the 5 positions on a Basketball team- Point Guard and Shooting Guard (Guards), Centre, Small Forward and Power Forward (Forwards).
    We also went on to look at our first structure, which was the defensive 2-1-2 Zone.
    The attachments below
    were shown
    {19-08 work
    in class and should be looked at again to help your study. You were also given homework to look at the 5 players from the powerpoint on YouTube.
